The World in His Eyes Hosted by the Goodreads M/M Romance Group

Larry is a flirt and a sweet guy under a bit of swagger. He is tired of one night stands and wants to find a real relationship but he has a hard time staying away from the hook-up sites. Because… sex. Larry feels the sting of being rejected automatically because of his race. But he still has a positive attitude and rolls with the punches. He won’t ignore elephants in the room, however; which sometimes leaves people uncomfortable.

“Beautiful eyes” is a snarky, young, driven professional who won’t be guilted into making a connection. He isn’t even looking for Mr. Right… but he likes Larry’s open face and broad shoulders and is charmed despite himself. Will “Eyes” give Larry a chance when his friends (or colleagues, family) seem less than enthusiastic? Can he grow up enough to accept a relationship that requires some work and commitment?

Can Larry set aside his patter and flirtatiousness enough to let “Eyes” see the sensitive guy hiding?

Demon Spawn (Not complete, edited, or cohesive. Proceed at your own risk.)

When Vaughn Shido joined his brother's troops as they besieged the desert city of Ro'don, he assumed that the infamous enemy commander Ari Kale adopted the title Demon Child to inspire fear in his enemies. After a gruesome battle, fate and a psychotic ally guide him to a beautiful young enemy on the brink of death. He steals the young man away and nurses him back to health, only to discover that he brought home the Demon Child himself--and that the title is a literal description rather than a moniker.

Story Notes: Even at over 90,000 words, this is still a work in progress. I've been trying to write fantasy stories for so long, and failing so miserably because I can't even stop being a skeptic in my own imagination. This is the first one that has come together quite as I intended. Despite my own misgivings, it's a fun read that seems to really want to become an epic fantasy series.

Graffiti is gone.

It was one of the first things I ever wrote, and while it inspired some future projects, it should have stayed on my hard drive rather than ever seeing the light of day. But if anyone read it and didn't mind the mess, email me for a .doc copy:)

    1. In the course of moving this time around (there's nothing like having movers coming in two days to make you remember where you stashed all the boxes you didn't want to unpack the last time around) I actually found a backup of the fanfiction version! I'd actually lost the one on my computer when it died.

I am still nervous about whether or not to make the fanfiction version available online again, but I'm totally willing to send a copy for you to keep. Drop me a line at the_lost_ogg@yahoo.com and I'll send an .rtf of it:)

  6. Graffiti was the first work of yours I read and I thank you for posting it as a free read. I appreciate your generosity in posting a long read and wanted to let you know that I loved it and have now purchased everything you've written and will continue to do so.

    1. Andrea, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I know it has more of a soap opera/fancition feel than the books I've published, but I love revisiting it myself. Hopefully I'm going to get around to writing a prequel to it within the next six months or so, because I adored writing about Jay's dad. (And, you know, any excuse to write about a sexy construction worker...)

  7. A Casual Weekend Thing was the first work of yours I read, and I liked it. Recently I came across Demon Spawn on AFF and loved it, I was surprised to find that it was written by that same author! The story was so engaging and compelling, thank you for sharing it with us as freebie!

    1. I'm glad you liked it! Demon Spawn is one of those stories that's been growing, and changing, for years--I love it too much to let it go. Unfortunately, my own tag line for the story was "reasonable people save the world" and the story keeps ending in a mess of fire and blood. So I'm still plugging away at it and toying with different endings:) It'll be finished one of these days, though!

  8. Dear Author, I am currently readind The World in His Eyes and in my understanding the ER does not treat patiens as described in the book. I am not a medical worker and I am completely unaware of how things are done in US, but I had the (mis)fortune to visit the ER in 3 European countries. In none of then the patients are treated in the order they show up, but only according to the seriousness of the emergency. So a toddler with a shattered arm or a bleeding pregnant woman would not be waiting for the doctor to investigate patients with headaches of less serious conditions.
I am somewhat convinced that the same is true for any ER, even in US.
Sorry for the rant: I am a recently pregnant woman and have an older toddler, so it struck a nerve.
    Off to read further :)

    1. Scary, isn't it? Unfortunately, all of the ER scenes in this story were taken from real life experiences. The 12 hour wait for the toddler with a broken humerus was my own two year old (and the 12 hours was just to get a bed, x-rays and surgery took another 6 hours).

For the most part, our triage system works the same, but so few people have regular health insurance and a regular doctor they can go to, they use the ER as clinic AND for emergencies, because an ER is the only facility that can't refuse to help someone just because they can't pay their bill. The non-emergency use creates a massive backlog in every ER in the country. Before doctors can see new patients, they've got to have a bed to put them in, and sometimes they run out of room. Sometimes they move people with influence out into the hall just to get space.

As for priorities, chest pain typically bumps a patient to the front of the line. A headache that's bad enough to bring someone in to the ER can be a cerebral hemorrhage, so they're seen before most fractures and injuries. Doctors have to rule out a cerebral hemorrhage once the patient is in a bed, and that takes time. If they miss ANYTHING, they'll face a lawsuit for medical malpractice that may ruin their career.

As for the miscarriage scene, that, unfortunately, is also straight from real life. The reality is that during an early miscarriage, there's very little doctors can do to fix things. A D&C can move the process along (as long as you're not stuck at a Christian hospital, most of which refuse to perform them on religious grounds) but unless the mother begins hemorrhaging, it's not considered as critical as a heart attack or stroke.

In short, the American medical system sucks so much it's often quite literally unbelievable:(

A Rant About Fanfiction

Confession time! I like fanfiction. I read it, I wrote it, I still get lost in it. I’ve talked to a lot of folks who read and enjoy fanfict...
